Censorship is something that is incredibly interesting to be. We are constantly being exposed to is and often times have no idea of what is going on within the media. There are many different types of censorship through the media. After listening to this weeks lesson, one type of censorship that I am most interested in is the censorship of Social Media. Each social media outlet has the right to remove anything that they believe does not fit within their code of conduct. I have seen several posts that read “this content is no longer available”, and every time I see that I wonder if it is because the owner removed it or if the social media company had removed it because they felt is was not an acceptable post. Social media is becoming more and more popular everyday and people all over the world use it for a plethora of different reasons. Because of this, there is going to be more and more censorship used on these platforms.

One version of censorship that I see being the most problematic is the censorship of Government. The concern that I have over this element of censorship relates back to the fact that the Government is allowed to use force when dealing with censorship, and while in some cases that may be necessary, I believe that having that much power could have negative aspects. I think that being able to censor what people say and believe could interfere with people’s first amendment right to some extent.

With this being said, I would like to know more about this area of censorship so that I can learn and become more educated about that rights and restrictions that the Government has on its censorship ability. I would also like to know about other governments around the world, not just in the United States. I do not have a great deal of knowledge about what the government can and cant do with regards to censorship, and learning more would help me to resolve or strengthen my concerns and questions for this area of censorship in the media.
